For the physical and emotional well-being of our residents and their families, we offer a variety of nursing care and support services in our Health Care Center.  These include 24-hour skilled nursing care, post-hospital and post-surgical care, restorative care, physician services, pharmacy services, and family counseling.

Our Health Care Center also features the latest in technology and offers a full range of rehabilitative therapies, which help residents improve muscle strength, regain mobility, and, if needed, relearn daily living skills.

The Health Care Center is managed by a licensed administrator and a director of health services.  In addition, resident care is supervised by our community medical director.  The center is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by highly qualified licensed and certified personnel.

Providing the needed care for a loved one diagnosed with Alzheimer's or a related memory disorder is a difficult, progressive challenge that in the past has often left care givers with one choice - a nursing home.

We recognized that their were few options for children and spouses caring for family members with Alzheimer's.  So drawing on our many years of experience serving seniors and their families, and relying on the valuable contributions of experts, we set about to develop an alternative.

Today we are pleased to introduce and welcome you to an important component of our Savannah Court Of The Palm Beaches community:  our Special Care Center for people with Alzheimer's and related memory disorders.

We Can't Cure, But We Can Care For, People With Alzheimer's

We realize that a person with Alzheimer's needs just what we all need:  love, understanding, security, and a sense of dignity.  By recognizing and reinforcing the unique gifts a person with Alzheimer's has retained, rather than dwelling on what has been lost, our Special Care Center provides an enriched quality of life for residents as well as their families.

Comfort and Safety In Familiar Surroundings

Our Special Care Center has been carefully designed to preserve our residents' sense of independence and self-worth as long as possible while keeping them safe and secure.

We have created a comfortable, home-like setting, enhanced with a wealth of familiar cues that assist residents with orientation and help decrease anxiety and depression.  

When you visit, some of the amenities you see include:

• Memory boxes containing personal objects by each doorway to help residents find their rooms

• Residents' suites furnished with their own furniture and special treasures

• A country kitchen where residents can experience the satisfaction of baking cookies or kneading bread dough with the activities staff or just socializing

• An intimate living room ideal for watching television shows or for participating in small group programs

• A creative arts center and family room where residents gather for activities and family get-togethers.

• A dining room offering the warmth and comfort of home and all the attention and assistance that is needed

The entire center is secured as is the lovely outdoor area allowing residents the opportunity to wander freely, inside and out, enjoying the simple pleasures of life without jeopardizing their well-being.

To preserve residents' privacy - and their dignity - we offer both private and semi-private residences with a private bathroom.

Caring for people with Alzheimer's and related memory disorders requires resourcefulness, patience, and a strong caring attitude.  Accordingly, every person selected to work in our Special Care Center has been carefully screened and well trained prior to working with our residents.

In our community, customized care is a fundamental component of our program.  That's why our Special Care Center assembles a team of professionals, from a variety of disciplines, who are responsible for developing an individualized wellness and care plan in cooperation with each resident's family.  The plan is then reviewed each month by the members of the interdisciplinary team, who share perspectives and observations about each resident, making changes to the plan as needed.

The Comfort Of A Daily Routine

We believe that participation in a variety of engaging activities provides residents with the opportunity to connect and experience feelings of purpose and self worth.  So at our Special Care Center, we pay close attention to little things - an acknowledging smile, a sparkle in the eyes, an extended hand, for these confirm the benefits of our familiar carefully planned routine.

Residents are encouraged to participate in familiar activities, such as household tasks, if such activities provide a sense of satisfaction and acknowledgement.  They also have the opportunity to go on a variety of outings into the local community, which helps to reduce isolation and add quality to living.

Dining In the Company of Friends

Mealtime provides a great deal of enjoyment for our residents.  They are served in our Center's inviting country kitchen by our staff.  Left on their own, dining might prove difficult for some residents.  That's why we have developed a special menu with food items that are easy to eat.  Family members, of course, have an open invitation to join us anytime.

Because good nutrition is a critical aspect of Alzheimer's care, our food and beverage staff pay very close attention to our residents' dietary requirements.  All meals are planned under the watchful eye of a dietician.  And between meals there's a ready supply of snacks.  Not only do they taste good, but they also help to decrease the potential weight loss often associated with the disease.
